Yesterday, I visited a chain bookstore during a period of lag time. I was surprised by the lack of quality of books available for young readers.

Many books offered were graphic novels, which I consider glorified comic books. The store had an entire section dedicated to Manga "books." And, the majority of "real" books to read dealt with fantasy worlds or teenage romance. I did not see one historical fiction book, or many Newberry medal titles, or books that demonstrate how to live life in relation to other people.

How can we imagine we will raise a generation of readers with such wimpy offerings?

fortunately for us, you had a vision a few (many) years ago and started Sonlight. Thanks to that, we are able to give our kids a wonderful library, full of great books. I'm so glad you pull together the best of the best into one easy place to buy from -- especially now, living where English books are scarce and expensive. Thank you, Sarita, for seeing a need and meeting it so perfectly.

That's one of the many reasons I am so thankful for Sonlight. God bless you and your family!

The last time I was in a book store I noticed the same thing. In fact, the last time I was in a book store was right after I found Sonlight the very first time and wanted to flip through some of the books on the list to see if I'd like them.
The book store (a very large, popular book store, too) had soooo very few of the books I was totally shocked.

I agree with TexasHeather, fortunately you started Sonlight and we can experience quality literature with our children :)

I also wanted to say, I was the photo contest winner this year and thank you so much for the kind letter you wrote to me, it totally made my day and continues to make my day every time I've read it since then :)
